Want to sew a unique bag? You have to try this adorable square drawstring bag! This tutorial from Sum of their stories shows you how to make a Komebukuro, or Japanese rice bag, with a beautiful Boro style decoration. While it looks a little more complex than a basic bag, it’s still simple enough for a beginner to tackle.
The Boro style uses tiny pieces of scrap fabric and easy hand stitches to create a unique, textured look. You can, of course, skip the embellishment and just use a single beautiful fabric you want to show off. You can use ribbons from old clothes for the drawstrings and mix and match fabrics for the lining and outer pieces. The tutorial even shows you two different ways to make the drawstring channels, and you can easily size the bag up or down.
